Have fibromyalgia and hypoglycemia and are Craving Grains? There are a couple of grains that have a glycemic load that is average. Which means they are not exactly "light" and not exactly "heavy." (However, if you do eat too much of it, that meal as a whole would be considered "heavy" and would bring on fms symtoms.) These grains are Whole Oat Groats and Slow Cooked Oatmeal. You can replace a 3/4 portion of the sample fruit meals above, with a 1/2 portion of Whole Oat Groats (not a full portion!) without the penalty of eating a high GL carbohydrate. Whole Oat Groats tastes like brown rice, although a little different. But it's a decent substitute if you keep the portion mid sized and add a little fruit. You can find Whole Oat Groats at your local health food store. Slow cooked oatmeal (oatmeal that has not been processed, as opposed to the instant 'heavily processed' type) can also be found at your local health food store. Here are the sample meals: - 3 ounces of fish, 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, 1/2 cup of whole oat groats, 1/4 cup of blueberries - 3 ounces of chicken breast, 2 walnuts, 1/2 cup of slow cooked oatmeal, 1/4 cup of cherries Fibromyalgia Diet Home |
